Heart is the human organ responsible for pumping blood throughout the blood vessels. Heart is placed in the center of the body between the two lungs. Blood, heart and blood vessels together form cardiovascular system. Life is depending upon efficient working of our heart. Heart disease or Cardiac disease is the  condition affecting the heart, such as the following

  • Coronary heart disease
  • Cardiomyopathy
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Ischaemic heart disease
  • Heart failure
  • Hypertensive heart disease
  • Inflammatory heart disease
  • Valvular heart disease

Heart disease can be prevented by quitting smoking, lowering cholesterol, controlling high blood pressure, maintaining a healthy weight, and exercising.

Coronary Heart Disease

It refers to the failure of the coronary circulation to supply adequate circulation to cardiac muscle and surrounding tissue. It is commonly known as coronary artery disease. The cause of coronary artery disease is  atherosclerosis, which is due to accumulation  of plaque (made up of cholesterol) in the arteries. As a result of plaque deposit the coronary arteries become narrow and the blood supply to the heart can .slow down or stop.

Symptoms of Coronary Heart Disease

The most common symptom of coronary heart disease is angina, or chest pain. Angina can be defined as a discomfort,  pressure, heaviness, aching, burning, fullness, squeezing, or painful feeling in the chest. Angina is sometimes mistaken for indigestion or heartburn. Angina is generally felt in the chest, but may also be felt in the shoulders, arms, neck, throat, jaw, or back.
